Your Gifts Make A Difference

It is the mission of the Christian Women’s Leadership Circle to provide the extraordinary female students at WLC with opportunities to learn and grow as Christian servant leaders who will make a difference in the world around us.

With your gifts and the proceeds from the annual Butterfly Brunch, the CWLC was able to provide over $11,000 in grants and leadership initiatives funding for female students during the current academic year. Plus, a $1,000 annual scholarship for a junior female student!

We encourage you to take a few minutes to read the partial listing of projects currently funded by your generosity.

Your gifts DO make a difference in the lives of WLC students!  Thank you!

Young Women’s Science Program: Six female students continue this program launched last year. The group will hold three events (one per respective field of biology, chemistry and physics) including lectures and labs. They reach out to female high school students who are interested in careers in science with the goal of building the students’ confidence in pursuing a degree in science. This $1,000 student grant helps fund speakers, lab & lecture equipment, and lunches.

Support the Troops Wisconsin: Three WLC students are teaming up with Support the Troops Wisconsin to create a service project on campus that allows for student and faculty participation. They invite the founder of Support the Troops Wisconsin to speak on campus, collect donations of items for care packages, and assemble packages for shipment to our troops. This student grant of $600 is used for devotional materials and postage.

Collegiate Choral Conductor’s Workshop: A WLC student is organizing a collegiate choral conductor’s workshop, which will be an affordable, high-quality event for college music students who may otherwise be unable to attend such a workshop elsewhere. One goal is to encourage female conductors to seek professional development opportunities. The student organizer acquires experience in professional communication while leading her peers. This is an opportunity for Christian witnessing outside of WLC. The student grant of $1,000 is applied to sheet music, guest speakers and conductors, refreshments, advertising/printing and supplies.

Student Leadership Summit: This is the 5th year that CWLC sponsors this event. The conference focuses on student empowerment and is a catalyst for students to get involved on campus, taking ownership of their college community. The organizers form a committee, delegate tasks and practice effective communication and marketing skills. Participation is estimated at 40-50 students. The student grant of $1,000 is applied to speaker gifts, supplies, refreshments and meals.

Women in the Word: Because of the success of last year’s program supported by CWLC, interest has grown for having more women’s Bible studies on campus; for women, led by women. The initial program was by invitation to upper-class women, and involved 19 students over the course of the study. This year’s initiative targets freshmen and sophomore students in their residence halls, reaching out to our youngest campus members and beginning a tradition of being in the word together as women. The goal is to build stronger female leaders through study of the Bible and grow their paradigm of how women can lead. The Advent by Candlelight program within Women in the Word links newer students to upper-class women and alumni as mentors and role models. The new study coordinates with the on-going upper-class study and the one annual advent event in December. The partnership award of $610 helps to fund promotional items, Bible study materials, and snacks.

Warriors Serve: This program provides a meaningful service opportunity for students as they serve meals to Ronald McDonald House families throughout the academic year. Goals of this project include:

  • Build community on campus and provide service experiences for WLC students.
  • Provide meaningful connections for WLC students beyond the WLC campus.
  • Serve families who are dealing with serious medical issues.
  • Enhance positive name recognition for WLC with the Ronald McDonald House Charities and in the greater Milwaukee community.

The partnership award of $1,000 is used to purchase food supplies for three programs each semester.
