2014 Scholarship Recipient

We are pleased to announce the 2014 recipient of the Sharon A. Schoeneck Christian Women's Leadership Scholarship. Rebecca Guagliardo, a junior nursing student, transferred from UW Milwaukee in the fall of 2012. In 2011, Rebecca took a year off college at UW Milwaukee to volunteer at an orphanage in the newly independent country of South Sudan. After months of caring for sick children, she was inspired to pursue a career in nursing. The recommendation of a friend for Wisconsin Lutheran College’s notable nursing program coupled with the willingness of the college to accommodate an overseas applicant helped finalize her decision to enroll.

At Wisconsin Lutheran College, Rebecca has participated in Children’s Hospital’s Respite Day held on campus, along with a vision clinic at Saint Lucas Evangelical Lutheran School. Rebecca is a huge proponent of giving back to the community by serving locally, she was a regular volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and has served her church youth group for the past five years.

After graduation, Rebecca plans to work as a registered nurse in Milwaukee. Upon gaining the necessary experience, she hopes to return to South Sudan and teach basic health education and disease prevention to the small village community she once served.
