CWLC History and Butterfly Brunch Recap

In 2006 the Christian Women's Leadership Circle (CWLC)

was created

.

Their priority was to organize and plan semi-annual brunch events that would provide scholarship recipient recognition for the

newly

endowed Sharon A. Schoeneck Christian Women's Leadership scholarship

. The brunches were also designed to promote servant leadership tenets and topics. These might

be shared by

nationally

or

regionally

recognized women speakers.

Another facet of the brunches would be to encourage social networking and fundraising opportunities for the college

.

These goals

were promoted by

founding members Marlene Schumacher, Sally Kriewall, Kris Metzger, Lisa Leffel, Sharon Schoenck and others

.

Perhaps

as a precursor to the CWLC and its Butterfly Brunch event, a group of Wisconsin Lutheran College female staff members hosted an annual Women's Conference

.

This all-day event attracted an average of 200 attendees each year from 1994-1999. Kris Metzger began working in the development office at WLC in 1999.

In her work with female donors, she often encouraged them to establish a scholarship which would support the young women attending WLC

. In 2006 on a visit to Sharon Schoeneck, an alumnae and donor, that encouragement -- and hope -- became a reality.

Sharon embraced the idea of endowing a scholarship, and since that time, the Sharon A. Schoeneck Christian Women's Leadership Scholarship awards $5,000

annually

to a female WLC senior who meets set criteria and

is selected by

that scholarship's committee

.

Now, over ten years later, the CLWC has developed into an organization with by-laws, an elected slate of officers, a board of directors, mission and vision statements, goals and objectives

.

The Butterfly Brunch remains as an annual event held every spring. At our event in spring 2017 over 200 women

were blessed by

words from Soles For Jesus founder Diane Studer.

In addition

to filling our minds with inspirational thoughts, we also filled many boxes with donated shoes! Over 500 pairs

were offered

up for processing and shipment to Africa. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, March 10, 2018 - we would love to see you at the Butterfly Brunch next year!
